How does Lidar work?

TF Luna sensor is based onToF (Time to Flight)principle. It emits near-infrared waves that bounce off the nearest object in their path, and then the sensor measures the time to Flight time and calculates the distance between the Lidar and the detected object.

Question: Two questions. 1. can the sensor measure the level of liquid ( application is to measure the state of water in the well ) 2. what is the maximum distance to which you can send a signal using cat5e?
Answer: 1. water level measurement should be possible.
2. the maximum communication distance for I2C is about 10 m.
