Ultraviolet light sensor module

UV measurement with classic photodiodes, phototransistors or photoresistors is not possible - the ultraviolet light band is below the visible range. For this type of tests you have to use a special kind of photodetector, adapted with its spectral sensitivity characteristics to test waves shorter than the violet visible to man (i.e. below 400 nm).

The DFRobot SEN0303 is equipped with the VEML6075 digital transducer with I2C interface. The tiny optoelectronic circuit has dimensions of only 2.0 x 1.25 x 1.0 mm and only four leads, yet its designers managed to accommodate both the photo-sensitive structure itself and the amplifier, 16-bit ADC, oscillator and driver.

Ultraviolet light sensor applications

UV radiation accompanies us every day - its natural source is the Sun, while artificial emitters include fluorescent lamps used in solariums, cosmetic lamps or sterilization radiators. The presented module can be used to verify the operation of some UV emitters, it also allows to determine the approximate share of such radiation in sunlight.

Before using the sensor, it is worth checking which nominal wavelength range is declared by the manufacturer of the tested device - Gravity module - UV light sensor VEML6075 - DFRobot SEN0303 perfectly copes with the UVA and UVB sub-bands, but does not support the so-called "harder" UVC radiation.
