How does the 3D pen work?

The 3D pen is a miniaturised three-dimensional printer that fits in the palm of your hand. This device is also powered by filaments produced on the basis of thermoplastics, and its heart is a powerful head capable of heating up to temperatures that can exceed 200 degrees Celsius.

This description sounds very serious, but this is how a 3D pen can be explained in a very simplified way. In fact, the main difference between both devices is the control.

A 3D printer works on the basis of instructions generated by special computer software, which, taking into account the user’s settings, processes a three-dimensional model. As a result, a kind of map is created, along which the 3D printer head moves fully automatically.

So how does a 3D pen work? In a very similar way, except that the person who operates it is 100% responsible for controlling it. This allows you to let your imagination run wild and create fully three-dimensional shapes, figures or objects literally in mid-air.

What can a 3D pen be used for?

In the hands of a talented person, the applications of the three-dimensional pen have no limits. Artists use it to create busts of famous people, imitations of characters from the world of cinema and television series, and also to make replicas of famous architectural works. So, with the help of a 3D pen and a certain amount of perseverance, even real works of art can be created!

Another group of recipients are hobbyists and keen DIY enthusiasts – how does the 3D pen work in their hands? With the help of this device, they can carry out all kinds of household repairs. This is possible thanks to the properties of thermoplastics, which become plastic when heated to a certain temperature and harden when cooled down.

Using this phenomenon, it is possible to draw horizontal straight lines in the air, making it possible to connect two separate points together. The 3D pen can also patch holes in objects, making it suitable as a simple plastic welder.

Most often, however, the 3D pen is used to stimulate the imagination. With its help, children can bring their ideas and fantasies to life and have fun. Due to its portable size, it can be used not only at home, but also at school, in art classes or other extracurricular activities.

How to activate a 3D pen?

Operating the 3D pen is very simple, although it may vary slightly depending on the specific model. To start the fun, you will need to connect the device to a power source and then load a thread of filament.

The next step is to select the operating temperature and wait until the 3D pen head has warmed up sufficiently. This is usually indicated by a green light coming on.

Once the operating temperature is reached, the trigger button can be pressed and the 3D pen will start feeding molten filament.

Which 3D pen for a child to choose?

When purchasing a three-dimensional pen, you should first of all pay attention to the type of filament it uses for its operation. On the market reigns the material, the line of which has a diameter of 1.75 mm, thanks to which, buying a pen compatible with it, you will be able to purchase in practically any shop at an attractive price further refills.

Power is also important, which allows the device to quickly reach a set operating temperature, so you don’t have to wait indefinitely for the pen head to heat up.
