This format allows as many as 2^12 different commands to be encoded, which is enough to support a wide range of functions in electronic devices.

In practice, when a user presses a button on a remote control, a unique code consisting of the corresponding bit sequences is generated. Each manufacturer is assigned its own address space to identify the target device.
The receiver, which is part of the device in question, interprets these bit sequences according to the RC5 protocol and executes the corresponding command.
This makes remote control of devices intuitive and efficient, and the RC5 protocol is a key part of this process.

Signal coding in RC5 is based on amplitude modulation. The signal is divided into blocks, each of which has its own unambiguous interpretation. Amplitude modulation involves changing the amplitude of the carrier wave depending on the state of the bit. In this way, even under conditions of interference, the signal is able to maintain its integrity and precision.
The infrared signals sent by the remote control penetrate space, reaching the receiver, which then reads the coded command.
This solution makes RC5 not only an effective, but also a reliable wireless communication protocol.

The RC5 protocol has gained immense popularity primarily through its versatile use in remote controls. It is used in a variety of devices such as TVs, DVD players, set-top boxes and radio receivers. Thanks to its reliability and efficiency, it enables smooth user interaction with the device. A key feature of the RC5 is also the ability to operate multiple functions with a single remote control. Switching channels, adjusting volume, or navigating through menus can all be done using the same device, which definitely increases user convenience.
