What’s New at Botland? #38

Reading time: 2 min.

Everywhere you go, always take the weather with you. May Day was kind of a week late this year. We are frying on the editorial terrace – during the time of writing this What’s New at Botland episode it’s 27 °C/80° F – not too shabby!

New products in Botland, however, not only in the glare of spring sunshine, but also in the glare of Creality. We have not had such a big delivery for a long time. Check below.

Creality 3D Printers

A fan favorite, to say the least. Ender’s game is starting anew, and not even Orson Scott Card predicted it – you can now choose from the Ender series models and all the CR series, but there’s more. Those of you who follow our social media, especially Facebook, Instagram and Twitter (this last one unfortunately in Polish only), have surely heard about all the noise and ruckus by now.

Creality 3D printers are some of the most popular low-cost 3D printing machines on the market. The assembled kits rank really high, get rave reviews from fans, and the new models effectively eliminate some of the minor flaws of the previous versions, as was the case with the Ender 3 Pro.

An useful feature on Botland store website

A new version of the existing button – now you have an updated availability notification for you next to some of the products. We listen to your opinions and it seems that we have accurately recognized their intentions. And if something is missing or a feature doesn’t deliver what it promises, it needs to be done – simple. If the product is available again, you will receive an email from us. Anyway, stop by to see how it works – it’s just a cool and convenient thingy.

Robodog Petoi Bittle – oh, is that a little Spot robot?

Bionic dog. That’s right! Petoi Bittle was created thanks to cooperation with toy geniuses TinkerGen, who you may know mostly from such small wonders as Glint bracelet or M.A.R.K. AI. Doesn’t bite and doesn’t break off its leash. Thanks to the servos placed on his limbs he can perform circus tricks like a real animal. The unique bionic system means dynamic movements and really impressive coordination. The bionic leg structure gives him more freedom in unstructured terrain, and such dynamic mobility takes its cues only from the best labs or some luxury robots like those from the labs of Boston Dynamics Spot or Sony Aibo. The Petoi Bittle works well both as a research tool – you’ll read why below – and as an educational toy for children ages 12 and up.

Bittle equipped with a custom Arduino-based board based on the Atmega328P chip can be coded using the Arduino IDE, graphically, in C/C++ and in Python. The option to program with treats and rewards is not yet available. The Arduino Uno chip is used to coordinate the movements and allows at least 12 PWM outputs to be controlled. The project will be extended with additional devices by 4 Grove interfaces – we can train Petoi in techniques of using modules such as ultrasonic sensors or infrared. Skilled trainers can use artificial intelligence with Raspberry Pi or derived systems.

Arduino Portenta H7

Not to be confused with breakdance (younger generation of Botland fans) or any other italo disco (middle and older generation of Botland fans). We just received another extension for Arduino Portenta H7 and it looks really good. Not only have the multitasking and flexibility been retained, but they have been expanded upon. We admire Italian style at its best all the time, and press materials promoting Oplà in the rhythm of IoT broke the bank being the best proof of great design.

  • USB A,
  • RJ5,
  • microSD,
  • OpenMW,
  • MIPI 20T JTAG.

Board includes an RTC chip along with a CR2032 battery slot, a screw connector for power supply, and all the pinouts of the Arduino Portenta module. The module will reduce development time for industrial grade automation solutions and embedded systems, and the OpenMV Global Shutter camera connector is a quick way to design vision applications. Arduino is amazing. Have a great weekend, and see you soon!
