Well, we finally got a new number in the title – round 50 news reviews. What interesting items did it bring? Check it out with us – welcome to another Botland news review!

Luxonis Oak-D-Lite

Human functioning relies mostly on sight – it is thanks to this sense that we efficiently move, make decisions and evaluate the surrounding environment. Probably everyone agrees that this model of functioning is successful, therefore with the development of technology and techniques we try to introduce a similar model into the digital world. Image processing technologies are undoubtedly an important direction of technological development. Autonomous vehicles, security systems, authorisation, safety or communication – these and many other aspects of modern technology are possible using artificial intelligence and video analysis. It is with such applications in mind that image recognition kits like Oak-D and the Oak-D-Lite version presented today were created.

The module developed by Luxonis enables the use of Myriad X vision processor technology. It is equipped with two stereo cameras with a resolution of 640 x 480 px, a refresh rate of up to 200 frames per second and a focus from 6.5 cm. These are important parameters for fast and smooth control for artificial intelligence. Between the stereo cameras is located another one, which is 13 Mpx and captures colour images with a resolution of 4208 x 3120 px. The central camera is in Fixed Focus configuration, i.e. it has a fixed field of focus, and enables clear vision of objects above 50 cm. This is useful in conditions of strong vibration, such as in vehicles. Additionally, the module can be used to work with popular platforms such as the Raspberry Pi.

Arduino Nicla Vision

It is so interesting with technology that generally speaking everything is getting miniaturised while maintaining or even increasing its functionality. This is no different with another new addition to Botland, which is the Arduino Nicla Vision board.

The board is based on the STM32H747AII6 ARM Cortex M7/M4 chip. Such a heart supports a 6-axis motion sensor, microphone, distance sensor and a 2Mpx camera. It has a USB interface and numerous pin-outs as well as a 3.7V Li-Pol battery connector. It also supports Wifi communication and Bluetooth BLE 4.2. The board is fully compatible with the whole Arduino Portenta series and MKR products. It fully integrates with OpenMV and supports MicroPython. It also supports Arduino IoT Cloud, which gives you the ability to remotely view data, control and share projects from anywhere in the world. So much functionality from a board measuring just over 2×2 cm!

ESP-C3-32S-Kit Developement Board

Another noteworthy tiny development board on our list – meet the ESP-C3-32S-Kit. It is based on the ESP-C3-32S chip and has goldpin pin-outs with a standard 2.54mm pitch. It is equipped with a 32-bit single-core RISC-V processor clocked at up to 160 MHz. The chip has 400 kB SRAM, 384 kB ROM, 8 kB RTC SRAM, built-in 4 MB Flash memory, and supports external Flash memory.

Main features of the board:

  • Precise clock gating functions
  • Supports Bluetooth 5, Bluetoothmesh at 125 Kbps, 500 Kbps, 1 Mbps, 2 Mbps, does not support classic Bluetooth
  • Built-in interfaces: UART, GPIO, ADC, PWM, I2C, I2S, temperature sensor, pulse counter
  • Integrated WiFi MAC/BB/RF/PA/LNA/Bluetooth module
  • STA/AP/STA+AP mode support
  • Smart Config (APP) / AirKiss (WeChat) Android and iOS support, one-click network configuration

Adafruit QT Py

Or maybe an even smaller board? If you want, you can and we can present the Adafruit QT Py ESP32-S2 WiFi module. It is a WiFi module with STEMMA QT/Qwiic connector, based on single-core ESP32-S2 chip clocked at 240 MHz, 4 MB Flash memory and 2 MB PSRAM. The third board from the QT Py family also supports WiFi 2.4 GHz communication, however there is no place for Bluetooth, as this functionality is not available here.

And what else fits on such a small board? There is a USB Type C port, which is also used to power the board, and a Qwiic / STEMMA QT connector. There are also two buttons, a NeoPixel RGB LED and a 3.3 V LDO regulator. In total we have 13 GPIO outputs here (11 on the pads + 2 on the QT connectors), including analogue inputs, DAC output, PWM, I2C, UART, SPI and I2S interfaces, as well as a touch button controller. The board with ESP32-S2 can be programmed in Arduino IDE and CircuitPython.

A set of accessories for the Flashforge Adventurer 4

And to end today’s news review, a set of accessories for 3D printers. As you know, 3D printing is an increasingly popular field of electronics and at the moment rather everybody has heard about this technology. This causes that there are more and more models of these devices and also they can print better and better. For this to be possible, however, various interchangeable accessories are required.

Botland’s latest new addition is a set of just such parts for the Flashforge Adventurer 4 3D printers. It includes two additional modular nozzles with different hole diameters and maximum operating temperatures, as well as an overlay for the heating table on which 3D models are formed. The 0.6 mm diameter nozzle is designed for a maximum temperature of 265°C, while the working temperature of the 0.3 mm diameter nozzle can reach 240°C. The exchange of nozzles is very simple and non-invasive, and thanks to this we can easily adjust the characteristics of our device to the given project. After replacing the parts, please remember about calibration, which can be done in the printer settings menu.
