3D printers for beginners

Reading time: 2 min.

Enclosures for electronic devices, toys, figures of characters from your favorite games, movies and fairy tales, decorations, replacement parts for machines and more – all these objects have two common features. They are three-dimensional and can be created in the process of mechanical processing of materials from which they are to be made. But they can also be produced in a different, and often more cost-effective way – by using the 3D printer.

You only need to design the object in a 3D CAD modelling software (such as Fusion 360) or just download the ready-to-print project from sites such as thingiverse.com and load the project file (for example STL format) to the 3D printer. If you are new to 3D printing, it is a good idea to choose the right printer that will be easy to use and at the same time will provide good print quality. In this article, we describe three 3D printer models that are particularly worth your attention, if you are a beginner in the world of 3D printing. Let’s take a look on two best ones.

Prusa Mini+

Prusa is one of the best known producers in the field of 3D printing. A particularly noteworthy model in the Prusa offer is the Mini+. The Prusa Mini+ kit includes a set of parts necessary to build a 3D printer and a comprehensive user`s guide, which includes assembly instructions, start-up and calibration procedure description, and lots of useful information about 3D printing. Despite the small external dimensions, Prusa Mini+ can print objects with maximum dimensions of 180mm x 180mm x 180mm – thanks to this, we can print really large elements. The set includes a control unit with a 2,8” LCD display, with which we can conveniently control the parameters of the printing process. The maximum printing speed is 200 mm/s, and the height of the print layer can be adjusted in the range from 0,05 mm to 0,35 mm, thanks to which the printed objects can be very accurately reproduced in relation to the intended design. The Prusa Mini + printer is an excellent proposition for anyone who likes to DIY and create various three-dimensional objects. The kit is offered in two versions – as a full DIY kit with spare parts and second version – partially assembled, which is a bit more expensive but faster to assemble.

Creality Ender 3

The Creality Ender 3 is one of the most popular 3D printers, especially due to its affordable price and really good build quality. The set includes all the elements and tools necessary to build a printer, as well as a user manual with colorful pictures, which in a very accessible way presents the assembly process step by step, understandable even for people with not very great technical and manual skills. Every single component of the Creality Ender 3’s frame is carefully crafted from high-quality aluminum alloy. The printer table is equipped with large knobs for printing area adjustment. The printer bed warms up time to 60ºC in less than two minutes, and the maximum bed temperature is around 110ºC. Thanks to this, this printer works perfectly with filaments with different thermal characteristics. The printing zone allows you to print items with a maximum size of 220 mm x 220 mm x 250 mm with an accuracy of ± 0,1 mm, and a maximum print speed of up to 180 mm/s. The set also includes a dedicated 24V power supply with a power of 360W. The hardware capabilities of the Ender 3 printer will surely meet the expectations of beginners as well as even more demanding enthusiasts of 3D printing.

Be sure to check whole Ender series and CR series, too.
