Product description: Doppler radar SYH24A1 - millimetre wave - 24 GHz transceiver - 20 m - Seeedstudio 114992118.
Doppler radar based onSYH24A1chip.The module is both transmitter and receiver of electromagnetic radiation waves. Radar allows us not only to determinedistancewhich separates us from the object, but also detectmovement, humanbreath, thenumber of peoplewithin the range and thedirectionin which the object is moving. The maximum range of motion detection is about20 m. The measurements made by the device are based on the Doppler effect by analysing the frequencies generated and received by the device by means of theRXreceiver andTXtransmitter.
The circuits and outputs are located on the board.
How does Doppler radar work ?
TXtransmitter emits electromagnetic waves, which after contact with an object return to the module, where they are received by theRXreceiver. The received data can be analyzed, thanks to which we can learn many things about the object or objects that the device detected. The principle of the module is illustrated in the graphics below.
The principle of operation of Doppler radar.
Location of the radar
The manufacturer suggests that the device should be mounted at a certain height depending on the layout of the room and its purpose. The manufacturer has paid particular attention to 3 types of installation:
- Horizontal installation
Horizontal placement is best when monitoring a person in a standing or sitting position, it will work well with office or household appliances.

- Sloping installation
The sloping installation will work well in all kinds of monitoring and security projects. In this case, the radar range is smaller, however, it can be easily set to the space we are interested in.

- Mounting on the ceiling
Ceiling mounting allows you to monitor a specific location. This type of installation will prove useful in projects that aim to monitor a person in a lying position, for example to control the movement of a child during sleep.
