A capacitor is an electronic component made of two conductors divided by a dielectric . In the case of an electrolytic capacitor, one of the electrodes is an electrolyte (a substance capable of ionic conduction), while the other electrode is made of metal (e.g. aluminum). We offer SMD electrolytic capacitors ( surface-mount devices ) - electrolytic capacitors are intended for surface mounting. Devices made of components using this technology are small in size. For soldering SMD components at home, a soldering iron with a Hot Air function works very well.

The use of electrolytic capacitors

Capacitors are electronic components that are used for many tasks, but are most often associated with filtering signals from noise or rectifying alternating current into direct current . In such situations, the property of electrolytic capacitors is often revealed - they are excellent at filtering low frequencies, but high frequencies are their weakness. This is exactly the opposite of ceramic capacitors (which cope perfectly with high frequencies), so when building a filter, it is worth using both types of capacitors. When assembling the element in the circuit, remember that electrolytic capacitors should be connected according to their polarization. Connecting the capacitor in the wrong direction (opposite polarity) will result in damage to the element or even explosion.

SMD electrolytic capacitors - FAQ

The SMD capacitor is one of the most basic electronic components, which are capacitors. The information that the capacitor is made using SMD technology means that it is suitable for surface mounting. One of the greatest advantages of SMD technology is minimizing the amount of space it takes up.

To find out the capacitance value of a given SMD capacitor, it is best to use an appropriate multimeter with a capacitance measurement function. Capacitors do not have a color-based recognition system (like resistors) - some capacitors may have a 3-digit code. The first two are significant digits, and the third is the number of zeros to be given to the first two digits (for example, 120 means 12 pF, and 124 means 12000 pF).

Ceramic capacitors do not have polarization. Particular attention should be paid to the correct connection due to polarization when using electrolytic capacitors - incorrect connection will result in permanent damage or even explosion.

The most popular types of capacitors are electrolytic, ceramic and foil capacitors, but there are also, for example , tantalum capacitors . They can also be divided according to the type of assembly and size - currently, capacitors adapted for surface mounting (SMD) and through-hole mounting (THT) are used.
