What are the characteristics of Satin Filaments?

Satin felt is a special series created by a reputable manufacturer of 3D printer cartridges Fiberlogy. They are made of polylactide (PLA), but their appearance differs from the standard material of this kind. The surface of details created with Satin filaments is more matte, and therefore in relation to the usual, glossy prints from PLA, the visibility of individual layers of the element is reduced. This allows you to get a much more aesthetic printing result while maintaining similar ease of use as with regular PLA. Printing with Satin filaments does not require the use of a heated table or working chamber, or very high temperatures. In addition, Fiberlogy's Satin filaments have low warpage and shrinkage, and they dry quickly and do not require advanced post-printing processing.

When is Satin filament suitable?

Satin is especially suitable for printing parts that need to maintain an aesthetic appearance - including ornaments, toys, model parts and architectural models, electronic enclosures and other decorative (or decorative-utility) details. The ability to easily obtain great-looking parts and simple work with the material make Satin filaments can be successfully recommended to beginners who do not yet have much experience in printing from thermoplastics. Satin Filament is also a good solution for professionals who want to obtain decorative prints with high aesthetic values. Filament can be used, among others, in design and architecture studios, as well as during the creation of ornaments, works of art and various prototypes and models.

How to print with Satin?

Printing from Satin filament does not cause many difficulties - the material is characterised by a low level of deformation and does not require complicated processing after printing. The manufacturer recommends printing at temperatures ranging from 200°C to 230°C, and for optimal results, the use of a heated workbench with a temperature of 50°C. In case of printers equipped with a fan, it is recommended to set it between 75% and 100%. Optimum printing substrates include PEI, masking tape or glass. Satin filaments allow you to achieve the best results at print speeds not exceeding 60 mm/s. Working with the filaments is even easier thanks to the ready-made profiles for Cura, which you can find links to on our website. This solution allows you to start printing immediately without having to manually configure material parameters.
