Question: Good day I would like to use it for voice control in home assistant. In this regard, I have a question, how much microphone sensitivity does it have. Is one per room enough?
Answer: The SPM1423 PDM microphone, used, for example, in M5Stack modules, is optimized for short and medium range operation. With its high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and low self-noise, it performs well in capturing sounds in quiet rooms.
No direct manufacturers data is given specifying the range in meters, but microphones of this type typically operate effectively in the 3-5 meter range in a home environment with little background noise. For voice control with Home Assistant, for example, one microphone should be sufficient in an average room of 15-20 m², provided the noise level is moderate. If the room is larger or noisier, consider using more microphones for better range and accuracy. It will also be best to place the module centrally in the room, which can improve performance.

Works with Home Assistant. You don't need to buy other modules. However, it has its drawbacks - it crackles when you start it, it's quite quiet (but what could you expect from such a little thing). I bought it as a toy for testing, so it's ok. The button is not addressable unless I haven't discovered it yet. It doesn't work for me in the voice assistant option, but that's because I have HA set on a Rasberry Pi 3 and there is no RAM, while the installation from the esphome website is not enough.

First of all, the positive: Updating / flashing a new firmware is super easy via the website. So is the subsequent integration into HomeAssistant. The part is automatically recognized and can be integrated with one click. After configuring the wizard, the voice commands work immediately. Now the negative: It was clear that neither microphone nor speaker are really good, but I didn't expect it to be so bad. You have to speak very clearly and in the direction of the microphone. More than two or three meters distance is hardly possible. The loudspeaker is a disaster. The audio feedback is hardly understandable. On the one hand, they are very quiet and on the other hand, the quality is very poor. If you can solder a bit, you should get the necessary components from the friendly Chinese restaurant next door. Hardly comes more expensive. There are enough instructions on YT (also in German)
