Spacer sleeves are used in various industries to maintain a constant distance between assembled components. They are an important element in electronic designs where insufficient distance between system parts may adversely affect the operation of the whole (for example by creating unwanted electrical connections). Spacer sleeves can be made of metal or plastic, and can be equipped (on one or both sides) with different types of threads for easier assembly. In addition to cylindrical bushings, hexagonal bushings (hexagonal in cross-section) are also popular. A well-chosen spacer can determine the quality of a project and its durability.

Spacer sleeves - material and design
The suitability of the sleeve for a given application is determined primarily by its construction (length, internal and external diameter, shape, possible presence and type of thread) and material of manufacture (metal or plastic sleeves). If the sleeves are used in electronics, it is worth paying attention to the value of current and heat conduction and resistance to heat (some plastic sleeves can melt at very high temperatures). Nylon and brass bushings are available, among others. The presence of threads is also important (threading is more common in metal sleeves than in those made of plastic) and its type - the most common threads in sleeves for electronic projects are M2 and M3. The spacer sleeve must be well matched to your project.
Spacer sleeves - application
Spacer sleeves are used in electronic projects to mount printed circuit boards, modules or brackets. Among other things, they are used to mount expansion boards in popular microcontrollers such as Arduino or Raspberry Pi. They can be used to separate electronic parts or as an aid when mounting an electronic circuit in its final position (for example inside a housing). Spacer sleeves are often sold in larger sets, which additionally contain mounting screws and other useful elements - such solution allows you to save money and avoid a situation when during assembly of a project you will suddenly run out of an essential part. It's also a good idea to stock up on a set of spacer sleeves of different sizes and threads so that you don't have to make separate purchases before creating your next project. Spacer sleeves are one of the items that will always come in handy in an electronics technician's workshop.
