IDC wires and connectors - An IDC connector is an electrical connector designed to connect to insulated wires placed tightly together as a ribbon. IDC connectors can be crimped onto wires without stripping the insulation, using special crimping machines. When properly made, the connectors fuse with the conductors in the cable, creating a theoretically reliable, leak-proof connection. A set with an IDC connector forms what is called a tub connector, sometimes called an edge connector. This is a type of multi-pin pin connector that easily connects multiple signals together.

The ribbon type cable is designed for use with multi-pin IDC connectors in such a way that multiple connections can be made simultaneously when the edge connector is placed on the wires. These connectors are not designed for repeated use, but can often be reused if care is taken when removing the cable. IDC connectors are placed on ribbon cables with special crimpers; however, with care, small connectors can be placed by hand or with a vise.
Compact tubular connectors for a large number of signals
Used together with IDC connectors, tub sockets allow to rigidly connect ribbons to printed circuit boards. These types of connectors have suitable guides, thanks to which the wires will be arranged in the right way. Bath connectors are available as vertical and edge connectors, i.e. at 90 degrees. Additionally, to make the connection even easier to implement, pin 1 is usually marked in red on the connector body.
Easy installation of connectors on ribbon cables
Ribbon cables allow for very easy installation of IDC or ribbon connectors. In our store we offer colored ribbons (each wire is a different color), as well as gray ribbons, where the first wire in the ribbon is usually marked with a red stripe, molded ridges or markings printed on the cable insulation. IDC connectors are put on ribbon cables with the help of special crimpers, which can also be bought in our store.
