SD memory cards and their smaller micro SD equivalents are needed to store data in smartphones, tablets, computers, as well as digital cameras, cameras or car navigation. They are small cards that allow you to expand the memory of electronic devices. Furthermore, they allow us to transfer data between individual devices that support SD cards. They differ in many parameters, among which is the one that is most important for the potential user, i.e. memory. It determines how much data we will be able to store on the card. Choosing the right SD card
Not everyone cares about the speed class of the SD card, which is a big mistake, because it is one of the key parameters. This is especially important for professionals. High speed class is appreciated by photographers and cameramen, who care about the best possible quality of pictures and films. We use this type of cards when recording in high resolution. Looking for a good SD card for your smartphone or music player, the speed class does not have to be so high, it is then a secondary parameter, although you should take it into account if you use your phone often for taking pictures or are connoisseurs of good music. The highest speed class is class 10, which we recommend for recording movies in full HD. The lowest is class 2 and will be suitable for recording movies in standard resolution. If you want to use the potential of HD quality, choose cards with speed class 4 or 6. Another choice should appear, if movies are recorded in 4K resolution, then the best card will be UHS in class 1 or 3.
SD cards vary in housing sizes. There are 3 sizes to choose from. Normally, 32.0x24.0x2.1mm, weighing 2 g and with a characteristic cut of the upper right corner. The smallest sizes will have a miniSD card, because 21.5x20.0x1.4mm, and its weight is only 0.8 g. However, you should know that this is an SD card, which is becoming less popular, has in most cases been replaced by a microSD card with the dimensions of 15.0x11.0x1.0 and definitely the smallest weight. It is mainly used in smartphones and tablets. So before buying the card, check which size fits your device. However, remember that you can place the microSD card in a place designed for a standard SD card using a special adapter.
Which capacity of SD card?
For the potential user, it is the capacity of the SD card that is crucial, and it is this capacity that determines the choice. The capacity determines how much data we can store on the card. Due to the very wide range of its use we distinguish a lot of card capacity, so we can easily adapt it to our own preferences and needs. The 8 GB card is a good choice for storing documents and text files. Twice the capacity is currently the most popular. It is perfect for music players as well as for storing videos. You can use the 32 GB card to store all your data from your computer and back up. The smallest drives in your computer have 64GB, while the larger drives have 128GB.
When choosing an SD card, remember to think about its purpose. The speed class and capacity of the card should depend on this. If you want high picture and sound quality, choose a higher speed class. When it comes to capacity, it is always a good idea to buy a slightly larger card to have the freedom to manage more data.
