It is not surprising, then, that sensors - electronic "sense organs" that allow devices to receive stimuli from the environment or measure physical quantities - are such an important element of the IoT. Without sensors, in fact, the existence of the IoT would make little sense - it is, among other things, telemetry applications (taking measurements at a distance) that constitute one of the most important application areas of the Internet of Things.
