The C1001 mmWave radar sensor by DFRobot is designed to detect human presence. It uses millimeter wave technology with a frequency of 60 GHz and provides a detection angle of up to 100° horizontally. It offers a presence detection range of up to 11 m when mounted on a ceiling at a height of 2.7 m . Unlike sensors operating at a frequency of 24 GHz, which are limited to detecting presence, speed and distance, the C1001 can also detect a fall and monitor vital signs during sleep. It detects both static and moving objects. The sensor uses a point cloud imaging algorithm to detect human posture and monitor signs of life. The module is compatible with ESP32 , micro:bit andArduino Uno boards and can be configured in the Arduino IDE.

A sensor with a wide range of applications

Compared to other types of occupancy sensors, such as infrared sensors, the C1001 occupancy sensor uses millimeter waves and is much more accurate because it can detect both static and moving objects . The module detects human presence and analyzes changes in body movement regardless of whether the person is sitting, sleeping, or moving. It also measures breathing rate and heart rate at a distance of up to 1.5 m.

mmWave radar sensor

The mmWave radar sensor is an advanced device that uses millimeter wave radar technology to non-contactly detect objects and determine their distance, speed and inclination angles. It transmits signals with a wavelength in the range of 61 GHz to 61.5 GHz. The mmWave Radar Sensor performs measurements based on the technology mmWave Doppler radar . It works independently of environmental factors - temperature, humidity, noise, air flow, dust, light and others. It is an ideal solution for individual applications, implementation of Smart Home applications or in threat alarm systems.

Sensor installation methods

The C1001 sensor radar covers a stereoscopic cone-shaped area with a horizontal angle of 100° and a tilt angle of 100°. The sensor should be installed on the ceiling or high on the wall of the room for accurate radar detection. In sleep mode, the radar operates in an area with an angle of 40° and a tilt angle 40°.
