It allows, through gears, to transfer the rotational movement from the shaft of the stepper motor to the linear movement along which the moving elements of the device move. It is used as a structural component in 3D printers, especially in self-replicating RepRap designs. It is also found in cutting plotters and CNC equipment. It does not overstretch even when operating under increased load. Rounded teeth of the belt enable precise cooperation with gear wheels.
