Damage caused by martens
A marten deterrent in the attic may be an integral element of the home security system, because this is the part of the building that is most exposed to attacks from predators. Damage to structural elements may indicate that unwanted "guests" have appeared in the building. Marten prefer attics, which provide them with an unoccupied and warm (heated by the floor) shelter during the cold months of the year. The insulation layer, which the pests gnaw through, also falls victim to. An additional problem is the risk of damage to the electrical, telephone or Internet installations - biting the cable is no problem for a predator - and this may result in a fire and less dangerous, but still troublesome, problems with access to the media. In cities, animals like to hide in cars, which can also damage the installation. So if your car suddenly won't start in the morning, it may be because of a marten. How to get rid of this problem and prevent further damage to the building or car in the future?
How to scare away martens?
The destructive activity of predators is a natural consequence of their lifestyle - searching for shelter in late autumn and winter, as well as building nests in which they can raise their young. For this reason, the vast majority of people are looking for a humane way to scare away martens, rather than poisoning or catching them, which may cause injury or even death to the animal. Ready-made electronic devices – i.e. repellers – turn out to be the optimal solution. What repels martens is the emission of ultrasound in a band that is unpleasant to the animal's sensitive hearing. Both car and home repellers work on the same principle - emitting ultrasound in such a way as to cover as large an area as possible around the transmitter.
Will vole repellent work on martens?
Manufacturers offer many repellers for voles and other rodents. These devices most often emit ultrasound, which also affects martens and other small predators to the same extent. Depending on the intended installation location, the repellers are either equipped with a power supply that allows them to be connected to an electrical outlet at home, or with a rechargeable battery (usually battery). Both of these solutions can be successfully used at home and in other facilities. However, a marten repeller for a car often has two terminals with eyelet connectors. These wires are connected to the car battery terminals. The repeller works continuously or is triggered when motion is detected - the latter solution reduces the power consumption of the device. The advantage of marten deterrents is that they prevent animals from approaching houses or vehicles - thus providing 100% protection against the possibility of them causing damage.
Marten repellents - FAQ
Marten deterrents work if they emit sounds loud enough in the appropriate frequency range. It is worth changing the frequencies so that the animals do not get used to the constant sound.
It is best to choose a repeller with a variable sound frequency, operating in the range of 20-44 kHz and with a volume of at least 70 dB. An additional advantage will be a large sound emission angle and the ability to work in a wide temperature range.
The most effective are ultrasonic and light repellents , although various types of chemicals are also used, and less often, mechanical traps.
Ultrasonic and light marten deterrents are highly effective, but it is worth remembering that no solution is 100% effective.
