We recommend PVB filaments primarily for decorative, design and artistic applications. They enable extremely easy smoothing of the surface - just treat it with isopropyl alcohol. An additional advantage of PVB as a material for 3D printing is the possibility of obtaining transparent prints.

PVB filament as a material for FFF/FDM printing
The material used for the production of PVB filaments is polyvinyl butyral. This material - outside the 3D printing industry - is used e.g. for the production of foil connecting laminated glass panes, the production of photovoltaic modules, paints and inks, as well as various types of binders. In 3D printers, PVB filaments belong to materials with relatively low requirements - they are most often compared to the extremely popular PLA filaments. When printing details, you can use a fairly low temperature of the working head (even below 200 o C) and the working table (from 25 o C - depending on the parameters indicated by the specific manufacturer). However, it must be remembered that PVB filaments are hygroscopic - which means that they have the ability to absorb moisture from the air. Therefore, they should be stored in a closed box (manufacturers protect the packaging with special inserts with a moisture absorber for this purpose), because after wetting the filament partially loses its properties.
What to use PVB filament for?
Polyvinyl butyral can be used to print collectible figures, decorative elements (e.g. jugs, vases, pot covers, coasters and containers for office accessories), modeling details. Due to the high transparency, PVB filaments are used to enrich printouts with plastic "glasses", and the semi-transparency is an additional decorative value. The previously mentioned treatment with isopropyl alcohol also brings phenomenal effects, after which the surface of the detail becomes smooth and perfectly shiny, and the visibility of joining individual layers is completely reduced.
