Compact Raspberry Pi module
By eliminating large Ethernet and USB connectors, along with the integrated circuits needed to operate them, the Raspberry Pi Zero single-board computer can be significantly smaller than the classic Raspberry Pi minicomputer. Thanks to its compact size, this module fits perfectly into sets such as lamps or portable radio receivers. Additionally, the low price of these minicomputers makes them ideal for use in simple Internet of Things devices, such as temperature sensors or weather stations.
Zero W version with built-in Wi-Fi module
The classic version of the Raspberry Pi Zero minicomputer is not equipped with wireless communication modules. If we want to add e.g. Wi-Fi connectivity to these single-board computers, we have to buy an appropriate module, for example in the form of a wireless USB network card, which not only increases the price of such a set, but also requires a more complex one than in the case of ordinary Raspberry computers. Pi,assembly, as Raspberry Pi Zero is not equipped with USB ports. Here, creators from the Raspberry Pi foundation came to the rescue - they released the Zero W model, equipped with an integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth card.
Economical single-board computers from Raspberry Pi
The attractive price makes the Raspberry Pi Zero single-board computer ideal for use in inexpensive Internet of Things devices, such as distributed temperature or humidity sensors in a home automation system. Another Raspberry Pi Zero module in such a system can, for example, be responsible for controlling central heating valves, thanks to which you can easily set up a simple and inexpensive system to control conditions in an apartment or house.
Raspberry Pi Zero - FAQ
Raspberry Pi Zero is a smaller version of the popular Raspberry Pi minicomputer. The compact size was achieved by eliminating some of the components. Additionally, the Zero version does not have a built-in Ethernet port and USB Hub. Compared to standard minicomputers from the Raspberry series, the Zero model is distinguished by a lower price, which makes it often the first choice among electronics beginners. Raspberry Pi Zero's compact size is second only to Raspberry Pi Pico , a small board with the proprietary RP2040 controller.
Although seemingly Raspberry Pi Zero and Zero W are two the same minicomputers: identical processors, sizes, the same amount of RAM (512 MB) and the same connectors. In fact, the tiles differ significantly from each other. The first difference is the power supply: Raspberry Pi Zero W 180 mA at 5V, while Raspberry Pi Zero 160 mA at 5V. Another key issue is WiFi connectivity. The RPi Zero version does not have a built-in WiFi module, while the Zero W model has 802.11n Wi-Fi. The third very important issue is Bluetooth connectivity. The Zero version is devoid of it. Zero W, in turn, is equipped with Bluetooth 4.1
The price of Raspberry Pi Zero depends on, among others: from the manufacturer and specific version. The more extensive it is, the more you have to pay for it. The cheapest version, Raspberry Pi Zero V1.3 - 512MB RAM, costs about PLN 40. In turn, for Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W 512MB RAM - WiFi + BT 4.2 you have to pay about PLN 100. The Raspberry Pi Zero WH 512MB RAM - WiFi + BT 4.1 model with connectors costs about PLN 80.
