Raspberry Pi 400 – perfect for lovers of integrated technical solutions
Imagine that you combine two different "raspberry" products - a Raspberry Pi 4B board in the version with 4GB RAM and an original keyboard for Raspberry Pi in white and red - by combining these two devices into one, we get... Raspberry Pi 400 - the first attempt of engineers from the Raspberry Pi Foundation to create a miniature computer, which heralds a foretaste of the miniaturization of PC computers in an All-In-One housing. The set includes a keyboard with a built-in Raspberry Pi 4B module, an optical mouse, a power supply, an adapter for micro-SD to SD cards, an HDMI cable for connecting a monitor, and an illustrated user guide. The first element of the Raspberry Pi 400 case that is immediately impossible not to notice is its keyboard, which makes a very good visual impression and is made exceptionally aesthetically. The short stroke of the soft-touch keys allows for quick and comfortable data entry into the computer.
Raspberry Pi 4B with integrated keyboard and even faster processor!
Apart from the keyboard itself, the Pi 400's interior is also impressive. Under the keys there is an electronic circuit made in accordance with the Raspberry Pi 4B diagram presented in June 2019. On the hardware side, the Pi 400 also has elements such as the Broadcom BCM2711 SoC processor, which uses four ARM Cortex-A72 cores, but unlike the Pi 4B, in which the processor clock is 1.5 GHz, the clock frequency of the same processor in the Pi 400 is 1.8 GHz, so we can use this computer for even more demanding tasks. There is also 4 GB LPDDR RAM on board and wireless communication modules - Wi-Fi compliant with the IEEE 802.11 b/g/n/ac standard and Bluetooth 5.0. On the front panel, the manufacturer placed a set of connectors known from the Pi 4B model. Here you will find, among others: Gigabit Ethernet connectors, USB 2.0 (the second same port is placed inside the housing and is connected to the keyboard), 2x USB 3.0 connector, USB Type C connector for the power supply, 2x micro-HDMI connector for monitors, micro-SD memory card slot with spring latch, as well as the hallmark of Raspberry Pi - a 40-pin GPIO connector. What is new is the Kensington Lock connector, which allows you to connect a lock with a combination that protects your computer against theft.
Raspberry Pi 400 – versatile and universal
What can we do using Raspberry Pi 400? The answer to this question is very simple, and it is this: we can perform the same or even slightly more advanced tasks on this computer as on the Raspberry Pi 4B. Another common feature of both computers is the Raspbian OS operating system, which is run from a micro-SD card, which is the "hard drive" in the "raspberry". Standard programs on Raspbian OS include, among others: programming tools - i.e. Geany and Thonny Python IDE, LibreOffice package, internet browser, multimedia player (VLC Media Player), accessories (e.g. calculator and notebook), as well as the popular game Minecraft. Thanks to an even more efficient Raspberry Pi 400 processor, it is perfect both as a computer for office work and for entertainment purposes, such as games and movie playback.
Raspberry Pi 400 entered the market in November 2020. It is a minicomputer in an All-In-One housing. When choosing Raspberry Pi 400, the set includes an efficient Raspberry Pi 4B module, which is built into the keyboard, as well as a power supply, an optical mouse, a memory card adapter (microSD to SD) and an HDMI cable for the monitor. Additionally, the manufacturer includes a detailed and clear (illustrated) instruction manual with the set. The entire set, despite its small size, is distinguished by high efficiency and aesthetic appearance.
Raspberry Pi 400 is an excellent choice for people who are looking for a compact and efficient minicomputer with universal use. Unlike single-board modules, Raspberry Pi 400 does not require users to purchase basic accessories. After removing it from the packaging, the set is ready to connect to the monitor (HDMI cable is included). Moreover, the minicomputer in this configuration takes up little space on the desk. Another advantage is the GPIO connector (40 pin) enabling the creation of simple and advanced projects based on Raspberry Pi 400. The described set is especially recommended for people who highly value hardware minimalism.
