BLS connectors are a family of multi-pin connectors with a 2.54 mm raster. They are installed on cables and dedicated to connect to goldpins. Due to their easy installation, low price and wide selection of available connectors, they are readily used in electronics to connect systems and individual components in a device. Because these types of connectors can be plugged into goldpins, they are ideal for prototype devices, where goldpins are often used as outputs for development modules.

Convenient to install goldpin connectors
Connectors in electrical and electronic systems are always a critical part of the system. Designing this aspect of the device must take place on many levels. Electrical requirements are important, such as the number of lines in the connector, as well as the maximum allowable voltage and amperage that the current flowing through it can have. Equally important are the mechanical requirements - the force needed to pull the connector apart, the type of lock (if any), and the strength, i.e. the maximum number of cycles to connect and disconnect the connector. BLS connectors are an excellent compromise on many of these issues, while being low cost. These connectors are capable of operating up to 250 volts and up to 1 amp. This much should be sufficient for most applications. The 2.54 mm raster - compatible with common 0.1" goldpins - is extremely versatile.
Easy crimping of terminals on cables
The metal connectors of the BLS connector are installed on stripped cable ends and crimped with a special tool. These pins come in two types - male and female, depending on the type of connector you want to put them in. Tool crimpers for BLS connectors are inexpensive and widely available, which distinguishes this type of connector from other types of connectors, which often feature expensive and complicated terminal crimpers. Once the pins are crimped onto the cables, they are placed into the connector housing where they are automatically snapped into place.
