When working on a prototype of an electronic device based on the Raspberry Pi or Arduino platform, it is very often necessary to connect an external LCD display, sensors and other external accessories that are necessary to run and check the project. When the design of our device works properly both in terms of program and electronics, everything is then fine. However, in a jungle of connection cables and contact plates it is easy to get lost, and finding the cause of a malfunctioning application can sometimes take a really long time - especially for beginners. This problem can be solved very easily by selecting modules from the Atom series from the M5Stack. The modules of the Atom series are the smallest modules from M5Stack that are designed for quick prototyping of embedded applications and, like the "bigger brothers", i.e. the Core and Stick series, are equipped with a C-type USB connector and a JST connector for Grove modules.
M5Stack Atom - development kits based on ESP32 processor
The leading products in M5Stack's offer are development modules, which enable quick prototyping of embedded applications. Atom series modules use ESP32 processor (successor of famous ESP8266) and have built-in sensors, communication connectors, buttons and diodes. The Atom Lite module enables the realization of a simple controller for home automation devices, which can control e.g. by regulating the temperature inside the building, as well as supervise building access control systems and other protections. Atom Lite is equipped with wireless communication via Bluetooth 5.0/5.1 and Wi-Fi, as well as 4 MB FLASH memory. The dimensions of the module are similar to a quarter of a dollar, and its weight is only 3 g, making it ideal for applications where there is a significantly limited amount of space for accessories. The module is equipped with a USB type C connector, GPIO connectors and a programmable button. If your requirements are higher, however, you will certainly be interested in the Atom Matrix module, which is an interesting development of the Atom Lite module. The module is equipped with a 5 x 5 square RGB LED matrix as well as a 6-axis IMU MPU6886 inertial sensor. This makes the Atom Matrix module ideal for use in remote-controlled vehicles that travel over rough terrain.
Atom Echo - miniature Bluetooth speaker
The M5Stack offer includes various expansion modules, such as Atom Echo - a miniature Bluetooth speaker that also uses an ESP32 processor. In addition to the 0.5 W speaker, the module is also equipped with a microphone and a 5-pin I2S connector, which allows you to add further expansion modules from the Atom series. The module is powered via a USB C port. A 5 V power supply with a minimum current capacity of 500 mA is required. The Atom Echo module is ideal for voice control systems.
