Atom Matrix v1.1 is an extension of the popular Atom Matrix module, designed for projects requiring accurate motion detection and spatial orientation. At the heart of the device is an ESP32 -PICO-D4 chip with a dual-core processor clocked at 240 MHz , 520 KB of SRAM, and 4 MB of Flash memory . The module offers 2.4 GHz WiFi communication, enabling easy integration with IoT systems. The front panel features a 5x5 WS2812C RGB LED matrix that can function as an information display, status indicator, or user interface. The built-in BMI270 sensor provides data from a 3-axis accelerometer and 3-axis gyroscope , ensuring high-precision motion measurements. Additionally, the module is equipped with an IR transmitter and a programmable button, enabling the implementation of remote control, controller, and interactive device functions.

Despite its compact dimensions, the module offers extensive expansion options thanks to the Grove HY2.0-4P connector . The connector provides a 5V power supply, ground, and GPIO26 and GPIO32 lines, which can be used to communicate with additional modules or control your own peripherals. Internally, the microcontroller also uses dedicated lines for the LED matrix, user button, IR emitter, and the I2C bus for communicating with the BMI270 sensor. This solution allows you to simultaneously use built-in functions and expand the device's capabilities with additional sensors, displays, or actuators. The USB Type-C connector enables programming, serial communication, and powering the module without the need for additional adapters.
Atom Matrix v1.1 vs. Atom Matrix - the most important differences
The biggest change in Atom Matrix v1.1 is the use of a modern BMI270 sensor instead of the previously used MPU6886. The new chip provides higher accuracy in orientation measurements and faster response to changes in device position . Thanks to the improved IMU, the module is more suitable for applications related to motion analysis, gesture control, robotics, and spatial orientation tracking systems. Other key design elements, such as the ESP32-PICO-D4, 5x5 RGB matrix, IR emitter, and programmable button, remain unchanged.
The USB Type-C connector enables programming, serial communication and powering the module.
