The Raspberry Pi single-board minicomputer series has been a true market success. On March 14, 2018, i.e. exactly on the world Pi day, the Raspberry Pi Foundation announced the launch of the Pi 3B + model. It is the successor of the Pi 3B model. In terms of PCB geometry and location of the connectors, virtually nothing has changed. However, the new single-board minicomputer from Raspberry Pi contains several new hardware improvements. The Pi 3B + model is equipped with a new, more efficient main processor and a modified heat dissipation system. An important change is also an improved wireless communication system. Raspberry Pi 3B+ with its hardware parameters shows an ever closer development trend towards standard PCs.

The first most thorough change in the hardware of the new Raspberry Pi is the main processor. The heart of the Raspberry Pi 3B+ is the Broadcom BCM2837B0 SoC processor. It is a quad-core 64-bit design built-in that is based on an ARM Cortex A-53 architecture. The clock frequency is 1,4GHz, which gives results 200MHz better result than the BCM2837 processor in the previous model. Also new is the extensive internet connection support. For the first time in history, the Raspberry Pi is equipped with a dual-band Wi-Fi communication module that can operate in the 2.4GHz or 5.0GHz band and meets the IEEE 802.11 b/g/n/ac standard. The second option of wireless communication is Bluetooth BLE 4.2, integrated with the Wi-Fi module. Data transmission via cable, i.e. via the Ethernet port, also enables data transmission with a maximum bandwidth of 1Gbit/s. What's more, after connecting to the Raspberry Pi 3B + PoE HAT pads, you do not need to connect an external AC/DC adapter. This is because the PoE HAT extension implements Pi 3B + power supply via the Ethernet port. The heat dissipation system has also been modified. Thanks to these solutions, the new Raspberry Pi 3B + works with even greater efficiency, while maintaining low power consumption.
