4-pin Molex connectors have become the standard in computer construction. In this regard, they are currently the most common type of power connection for computers with ATX power supplies. The four-pin connector is a standard introduced by the world-famous Molex company and although you can also find connectors from many other manufacturers, the classic 4-pin connector will be most often associated with the Molex brand. It is a company that manufactures and develops new cables, plugs and electronic connectors.

More power! - Molex connector
The appropriate thickness of the connector contacts allows for the transfer of currents of the order of 7A , which is sufficient for many devices we build. The Molex connector does not allow the plug to be connected in reverse.
In this way, the product protects against short circuits (e.g. motherboard) and reverse polarity of the supply voltage. This is crucial for systems not equipped with appropriate protection.
Reversing the polarity of the supply voltage usually has disastrous consequences for electronic systems, and in extreme cases it may lead to damage to the power supply, overheating of the cables, or even to fire. Computers are particularly susceptible to polarity change, i.e. reverse polarity.
Practical considerations for using Molex connectors
The pin pitch of connectors intended for installation on printed circuit boards is 5.08 mm , which significantly facilitates their use in new projects.
An important advantage of Molex 4 pin connectors is compatibility with ATX computer power supply cable harnesses, so we can use these efficient and popular power supplies in our own projects without having to recover connectors from old devices.
We can choose from both an angular and a straight version, which makes it very easy to adjust the operating direction of the connector to the dimensional conditions of our device's housing (e.g. connecting the motherboard).

When designing a printed circuit board, remember to use mounting holes of appropriate diameters.
Detailed information on this subject can be found in the technical documentation available on our website.
Molex connectors for mounting on cables consist of a plastic housing and contacts that must be crimped onto stripped cable ends. A properly made connection is durable and reliable.
When choosing a product (pins), pay attention to their type - the plug works with male pins, and the socket - with female pins. Additionally, in the connectors category you can find, among others: pin sockets , ARK connectors , electrical cubes , BNC connectors , DC sockets and plugs , BLS connectors and many others.

4-pin Molex connectors - FAQ
4-pin Molex connectors (named after the company that produces them) are commonly used when building desktop computers. Molex connectors constitute a power connection directly to the ATX, i.e. computer power supply. They are distinguished by high strength and durability. In addition, Molex connectors are characterized by excellent electrical parameters and a simple and reliable design.
The 4-pin plug is fully compatible with the cable harnesses of ATX power supplies, i.e. power supplies used in desktop computers. In practice, this means that efficient ATX power supplies using a 4-pin connector can be used for your own projects. Depending on your needs, you can choose a straight or angular connector, allowing for individual positioning, e.g. to the housing is no problem.
