RP2040 microcontroller
The RP2040 chip is the basis of the boards available in this section. It is a dual-core microcontroller that was designed and manufactured by Raspberry Pi, and first appeared on the market as a logic component of the Raspberry Pi Pico board. It uses an ARM Cortex M0+ core clocked at 133 MHz and also has 264 KB of SRAM, a QSPI and DMA controller, AHB, and thirty GPIO pins, four of which can be used as analog inputs. The RP2040 microcontroller can be programmed using C, C++ and MicroPython languages. This model has gained considerable popularity due to its high performance, wide applications and attractive price in relation to its technical parameters. RP2040 microcontrollers are used both in base development boards as well as in expansion modules (such as the MicroMod series from SparkFun).
What distinguishes boards with RP2040?
RP2040 boards are available from several well-known manufacturers - including the aforementioned Raspberry Pi and SparkFun, but also Adafruit, Pimoroni and Arduino. Most boards using the RP2040 chip feature small size and low weight, as well as a relatively low price (while providing good performance), so they are readily used in various projects requiring miniaturization, such as small electronic devices. The RP2040 boards can be programmed in MicroPython, which makes them ideal for rapid prototyping and those just starting their adventure with electronics.
Applications for RP2040 boards
RP2040 boards are very well suited as logic circuits in small electronic devices or not-so-complicated systems controlling various devices such as home automation controllers. They can also be used to create simple robots and other electronic projects. Due to their small size, they are especially recommended for applications where miniaturization is a priority. Many of the RP2040 boards can also be recommended for learning for beginners as their programming is made much easier by the use of MicroPython language.
What kind of RP2040 boards can you find in this category?
We offer a wide range of boards with RP2040 microcontroller. These include modules from the SparkFun MicroMod collection, which work with extensions from the same series and allow you to easily build and program small electronic projects. In addition to the base boards, you will also find many MicroMod extensions in this category to equip the base unit with additional features such as machine learning, TFT display or data logging. Each product is thoroughly documented from the technical side, so you can easily choose the proposal that works best for your project. Additionally, the manufacturer offers useful tutorials and user guides on their website to help you get the most out of your RP2040 boards.
