Principle of operation of NOR logic gate
CD4001 is an integrated circuit made in CMOS technology, where the structure uses unipolar transistors (MOSFET). The transistor connection system creates four NOR logic gates that function independently, although depending on the application they can be connected to each other. The NOR logic gate performs a function that is a serial connection of two logical functions - alternative and its negation. The principle of operation of a single two-input NOR gate is that if there is a high state at any input, the gate output will be low. However, only in the case of a low state being applied to both gate inputs, in response, we will obtain a high state at its output.
Other possibilities of using the CD4001 integrated circuit
By creating appropriate circuits using the pins of the CD4001 integrated circuit, we can implement combined logical functions. For example, by shorting the inputs of individual gates (pins 1 to 2, 5 to 6, 8 to 9, and 12 to 13, respectively), we will create a quadruple NOT gate. On the other hand, by shorting the inputs of two gates separately (pins 1 to 2 and 5 to 6) and connecting the outputs of these gates to the inputs of the third NOR gate (i.e. 3 to 8 and 4 to 9), we will create an AND gate (the resultant logical state will be obtained on pin 10 of the CD4001).
