Multiplexers are advanced electronic components that are found in both digital (now more common) and analog (slightly less common) versions. Due to its mode of operation, it can be said that the multiplexer is a combination circuit used to select one of several available input signals. After selection, the signal is transferred to the device output. The multiplexer is a commutation (switching) system. Thanks to the use of such a device in the electronic system, the number of inputs can be easily increased (e.g. to a microprocessor). The multiplexer has the infrastructure to handle a plurality of connected signal generators (e.g. sensors) with a single control signal which will eventually cause the device to return a single output.

In this category you will find the best multiplexers on the market - both the more advanced and the basic ones. The Botland store offers a wide selection of analog multiplexers in DIP casings (SMD - surface and THT - through hole) with 4 to 8 channels. You will also find a wide selection of modules with digital multiplexers from 2 to 8 channels. Check out our products below!
How does a multiplexer work?
The multiplexer works like a switch because it holds some or even several dozen inputs for signals, address inputs, one control input and one output. Regardless of the type of device, the connection diagram is very similar. The biggest differences are noted primarily in the type of circuit and the number of built-in inputs.
Each multiplexer has a control input, an output (a feedback signal will appear here), outputs for connecting signal generators (for example sensors) and address inputs. The multiplexer is a switching circuit which is designed in such a way as to return the signal value of one of the information inputs, the index of which has been determined by the control input. What's more, the multiplexers can also function as demultiplexers. In practice, this means that you can connect as many signals to one lead as the device has specific channels. You can also output as many signals as the device has channels from only one pin (demultiplexer). It is worth remembering that devices of this type operate after connecting the current with specific parameters, and the parameters of the signal at the output cannot exceed them.
Power multiplexers – extensive programmable electronics modules
In this category you can find many types of multiplexers in the form of advanced printed circuit boards. Multiplexers are often used in programmable electronics. Due to the fact that they have many outputs and are able to change their parameters and expand the basic application, this type of device becomes very useful, especially when you construct a slightly more advanced electronic project. Among the presented multiplexer modules, you will see products of very famous brands in the world of programmable electronics such as DFRobot, Pololu, SparkFun and Qwiic.
Multiplexers – what do we offer in this category?
Botland offers several types of analog multiplexers and many digital models. Analog devices are available in both SMD and THT mounting versions. The price of such devices is lower than that of competing analog multiplexers. Digital multiplexers today are mostly used for building various DIY projects, but most of all they are professional. Such devices are mostly modules with ready leads in the form of soldering pads, prepared, for example, for soldering goldpins. These modules can also be used to work with digital signals (for example with the I2C or SPI interface). We have multiplexers - including 2-bit, 4-bit and 8-bit. One of the 8-channel devices has an I2C output bus, which allows you to change the address, which consequently allows you to connect up to 64 I2C devices.
Multiplexers are more advanced devices that should definitely become a permanent part of the toolbox of every electronics enthusiast who is fascinated by programmable electronics. However, if you have difficulty choosing the device that will be best for your project, be sure to contact us. We will try to help!
