What are the types of protective masks’ classes? What do they mean?

When choosing a protective mask, you need to check what it is intended for. Some products will provide protection against the transmission of viruses, while others will only protect against the ingress of heavy dust into the respiratory tract. There are many different types of protective masks. The differences are mainly known according to the type of class of a given product. Face mask classes represent European standards that define how high the level of protection a mask provides. Most often, the masks are class one - FFP1. Such protective accessories provide approx. 80% filtration efficiency. They effectively trap solid particles. They are also the most popular masks we use to protect against coronavirus (although this does not mean that they are the most effective). These types of products also work well when we do renovation, use a drill and similar tools. Another variant is the FFP2 protective masks. The second class includes products that not only filter the air, but also have absorbing properties. In turn, the highest, third class of protective products has the highest filtration efficiency. FFP3 masks are good to use when there is a high concentration of dust in the air. On the other hand, the higher the filtration level, the harder it is to breathe in the mask for a longer time. Therefore, for some tasks, it is worth buying a specialized protective helmet.

Filtering masks and filtering-absorbing half-masks

An important parameter when choosing the right protective mask is the degree of filtration and the degree of solid particle absorption. As we mentioned earlier, only the FFP2 and FFP3 masks have filtering-absorbing properties. First class products only filter the air you breathe. So the standard mask that I use the most today is probably a filter mask. Provides good basic protection but will not protect against harmful gases. So if we are looking for a protective product for work with high levels of dust and harmful gases, we should only choose FFP2 and FFP3 masks. In such circumstances, protective helmets will also not provide good protection. It is worth knowing that the filtering and absorbing mask has a completely different appearance. At first glance, it may be associated with the element of a military gas mask. Good masks of higher classes are additionally equipped with a layer that absorbs harmful toxic gases.

Protective masks for construction work, for Covid-19 and other threats

How to choose a good protective mask? At the beginning you need to specify what requirements it should meet. A completely different mask is recommended for construction works, and a different one every day to protect against infection with the virus. It should also be remembered that national health and safety regulations may require the use of a specific type of protective masks for a given work.

If you work in your own workshop or at home and are looking for basic protection against dust, the FFP1 mask will be a good solution. This protective mask is also commonly used to stop the transmission of the coronavirus. In our store you will find several different versions. Choose a set of face masks to have more immediately and save money. You can opt for disposable face masks or reusable face masks that are machine washable. These types of protective masks are designed for use in a wide temperature range: -20 ° C to 40 ° C. The edge of the masks is adapted to the anatomical shape of the face. The products adhere well to the face. A convenient feature is a high-quality rubber strap, which prevents the mask from irritating the skin and stays firmly on the face.
