GSM modules, i.e. SMS, HTTP communication and much more
GSM modules produced today allow you to take advantage of almost all the benefits brought by the development of modern mobile telephony networks (in the GSM standard). The module operating in the GSM network is also used in alarm systems (e.g. sending danger notifications). And although many modules still support voice connections, currently this function is relatively least used in devices outside the mobile phone segment - for the purposes of transmitting control, measurement or control data, the ability to send and receive SMS messages and establish Internet connections is much more useful.
In the latter case, you can choose from virtually all the most important protocols and operating modes - including sending HTTP queries, low-level TCP and UDP connections, as well as supporting file transfers to/from FTP servers. Importantly, virtually all GSM modules support AT commands, i.e. an easy-to-implement text protocol that can be successfully used to perform "manual" module tests through any terminal program that supports virtual serial ports (using a USB-UART converter).
GSM modules in all sizes
Our offer includes a wide range of GSM modules (using the telephone line), both in the form of miniature systems to be soldered onto the board of the target device, and ready-made boards equipped with power supply circuits, antennas and all necessary connectors and configuration elements.
The first group includes, for example, the excellent Fibcom G510 Q50-00 GSM/GPRS module, designed for surface mounting using solder pins located on all four sides of the base with dimensions of 20.2x22.2 mm.
The ready-made GSM GPRS Bluetooth module is slightly larger - h-nanoGSM v.1.08. The tiny board measuring 30x32 mm contains (in addition to the module itself) two U.FL antenna connectors, a Power button, a miniUSB socket, LEDs, a SIM card slot and pads for soldering the 2.54 mm goldpin connector. As if that was not enough, there is even an integrated lithium-polymer battery charge controller on the same board.
GSM shields for Arduino and Raspberry Pi
If your project is based on Arduino and you want to avoid running wires between the GSM module and the base board, you will certainly like one of the Arduino Shield shields we offer, containing a GSM module mounted on a board with a design that is 100% hardware compatible with Arduino.
A good example is DFRobot Shield GSM/LTE/GPRS/GPS - the board offers not only fast digital connectivity via the cellular network, but also access to current geolocation (thanks to the GPS receiver).
For Raspberry Pi, we propose an analogous Waveshare LTE GPS HAT module, compatible in size with Raspberry Pi Zero, and therefore also with all other modules from the 3B+/3B and 2B series. We cordially invite you to familiarize yourself with the entire range of the communication section, where you can find, among others: Bluetooth modules , GPS modules , radio modules and many others.
