Electromagnetic field measurement - why should it be carried out?

Many devices and installations functioning in our environment generate electromagnetic field. Compliance with appropriate radiation standards is required e.g. in the design and construction of cellular network installations.

Measurement of electromagnetic field is so important due to the impact it may have on living organisms, including the human body. The negative effects of exposure to radiation include, among others, accelerated development of cancerous processes, damage to the nervous and reproductive systems, lowered immunity, and even sight impairment.

The Benetech GM3120 electromagnetic field meter operates in ranges from 1 V/m to 1999 V/m with an accuracy of 1 V/m (for electric field) and from 0.01 μT to 19.99 μT with an accuracy of 0.01 μT (for magnetic field). If the critical values are exceeded, the device will trigger an alarm.

The alarm threshold is set at the factory to 40 V/m for the electric field and 0.4 μT for the magnetic field. Observation of the measurement results is facilitated by a large and clear LCD display. Measurements can be made in the temperature range from 0°C to 50°C.

Electromagnetic field around us

With the functioning of any electrical and electronic device, there is a presence of electromagnetic field, which as the name suggests has two components - an electrical component, which is associated with the presence of electric voltage, and a magnetic component, whose presence is due to flowing electric current. Depending on the parameters and scope of application of the equipment, the values of these components may vary considerably.

Frequencies of artificial sources of radiation and electromagnetic field

Artificially generated electromagnetic radiation comes from such devices as radio transmitters and receivers, mobile phones, and microwave ovens, which operate in the frequency range of millions and billions of Hertz. In the case of power lines and substations, on the other hand, the range of EMF frequencies measured is from about 50 Hz to about 2500 Hz. The Benetech GM3120 meter allows for a precise check of the parameters of such electromagnetic field sources.

I bought a GM3120 device to evaluate interference. I have already found out that the biggest disturbances are coming of mobile phone chargers. I have several, and they all emit interference, albeit to varying degrees. Especially in a radius of 1.5 meters around you. From the minuses - contacts for batteries. I had to disassemble the housing and remove the contacts bend. Now the batteries remain securely connected.

It's a pity that a 9V battery is used for power supply, which is quite expensive. Here it can be appreciated that it was part of the delivery.
