Product description: Spark gap and varistor surge arrester D type 3 - SIMTEC SM3D
Compact SIMTEC SM3D surge arrester of the spark gap-varistor type, class 3 (D), which can be mounted directly in the box. The limiter allows you to protect more valuable devices, such as smart home controllers , which may be damaged by overvoltages caused by, among others, lightning strikes. The module operates at 230 V, offers a protection level of 1.5 kV and a discharge current of up to 1.5 kA . When the device is activated, an acoustic signal is emitted.
What is a class D surge arrester?
A Class D surge arrester, also known as a Type 3 arrester, is a protective device designed to protect electrical equipment against overvoltages occurring in the electrical installation. Its main task is to protect against induced overvoltages that may result from lightning discharges, but at the level of energy distribution inside buildings, i.e. at a lower voltage level than the main power input point. The basic mechanism of operation of these arresters is to rapidly redirect excess voltage to ground (ground), thereby protecting connected devices. They typically use a combination of spark gaps and varistors to effectively deal with high and short-lived voltage peaks.
