The use of batteries is necessary wherever an electronic device has to work without current access to the mains. Safety of this type of batteries is much higher, because there is no risk of potential ignition or even explosion, known from press reports about failures of some mobile devices. Charging these energy sources is also much simpler and can be done using uncomplicated electronic circuits. Gel batteries are perfectly suited for applications supporting the power supply of electronic systems in the event of mains voltage failure - that is why they are still used in bulk in UPSs or control panels.
