The sensor reacts to an interruption in the beam of infrared light that is transmitted between the transmitter and receiver. The module is equipped with a 3 mm IR LED with an illumination angle of 10°. In order to be activated correctly, the devices have to be aligned in such a way that the beam sent by the Transmitter reaches the Receiver. Beam interruption systems are used e.g. in measuring gates.
