Step-down converter manufactured by Pololu. The D36V6AHV is an inverter with adjustable output voltage from 4V to 25V. The maximum current capacity of the inverter is 600 mA. The input voltage is from 4 V to 50 V, but must not be lower than the output voltage. The output voltage is adjusted by a potentiometer on the board.

Leads of the D36V6AHV converter

The module has four pinouts in the form of holes:

  • SHDN - giving a low state (logical zero) causes the system to go into a low power consumption state (about 2 uA). In order to run the system it is necessary to provide a high state (logical one - voltage above 1.25 V). If the pin is not used it can be connected to the adjacent VIN pin.
  • VIN - input voltage from 4 V to 50 V, pay attention to the drop-out value and short voltage pulses that can damage the circuit.
  • GND - ground potential.
  • VOUT- output voltage adjustable with a potentiometer.

The connectors are properly signed on the board. Pinout is 2,54 mm (popular goldpin connectors). The module can be plugged into a contact board, connected with wires or soldered into a dedicated PCB.

Efficiency of the D36V6AHV inverter circuit

The efficiency is defined as the ratio of output power to input power (Power out) / (Power in). It is a very important parameter in the case of operation with portable sources of energy (batteries and accumulators), where the operating time on one charging cycle counts.

Drop-out voltage

The parameter referred to in the documentation as drop-outvoltage is the minimum difference between the input voltage and the output voltage necessary for proper operation of the system. For example, if the drop-out is 1 V and the desired output voltage is 5 V, the value of the supply voltage should be higher than 6 V. The figure shows the drop-out values for the D36V6x converters.
