Product description: RTK reference station - for geodetic measurements - SparkFun GPS-22429
The RTK reference station from SparkFun is a precise geolocation solution that provides time-referenced measurements. It can also be used by beginners in this field, because setting up a fixed-location NTRIP server is easy and quick. An RTK-enabled satellite positioning receiver achieves very high-accuracy measurements because it receives normal Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signals along with a stream of correction data. The received signals provide an accuracy of 30 cm , and the receiver acquires an additional real-time correction data stream (RTCM) and then calculates the device's location with an accuracy of 1 cm .
The manufacturer has prepared two guides that will make it easier for you to work with the RTK reference station. These include a user's guide and an RTK manual . Check!
What is RTK?
RTK is a term derived from the English "Real Time Kinematic" (RTK GPS), which refers to the technology of making precise measurements using satellite navigation systems. RTK is characterized by centimeter-level accuracy and the ability to provide measurement results in real time, eliminating the need for subsequent calculations, known as post-processing. It is a key tool in fields such as geodesy and cartography, offering a method for quickly determining the phase position of the center of a receiver's satellite dish. An example of a device using RTK technology is SparkFun RTK Facet, which can work in various configurations:
- GNSS Positioning (accuracy approximately 30 cm) – also known as "Rover" mode
- GNSS Positioning with RTK (1.4 cm accuracy) – known as "Rover with RTK Fix",
- GNSS base station,
- GNSS base station with NTRIP Server.
Special features of RTK
- RTK works best when correction data is generated locally.
- The accuracy of the "Rover" receiver decreases as the distance (baseline) between it and the "Base" generating corrections increases.
- The user can generate correlation data locally and then share it via 10/100 Mbps Ethernet.
- Inside the station there is an ESP32-WROOM processor and a u-blox ZED-F9P multi-band GNSS module.
- The RTK Reference Station can be powered by Power-over-Ethernet (PoE).
