Product description: Infrared transmitter and receiver module - 940 nm + 38 kHz - STEMMA JST PH 2 mm - Adafruit 5990
The compact module from Adafruit is a universal solution that allows you to simultaneously send and receive infrared signals . Thanks to the use of LEDs with a power of up to 200 mA each, the operating range reaches up to 10 m . It has a compact design and flexible connection options: via a JST PH connector or standard solder pins . There are LED indicators on the board that signal the reception and emission of signals, which facilitates diagnostics. The module is designed to support 940 nm and 38 kHz signals, making it an ideal solution for communication with IR remotes and other microprocessor applications. The integrated N-Channel FET circuit ensures reliable and efficient operation.
Main features of the module
- Dual function : supports both IR signal emission and reception in one device
- High power : LEDs with a current of up to 200 mA each and a range of up to 10 meters
- Connection flexibility : STEMMA JST PH (4 pins) or solder joints (0.1 inch)
- Status visibility : LEDs indicating reception (IN) and emission (OUT) of signals
- Compatibility : Supports standard 940nm and 38kHz signals, ideal for IR remotes
Module pins
- VIN : Power supply (from 3 V to 5 V). At 5 V it draws 400 mA (200 mA per LED)
- GND : ground for power supply and signals
- IRin : IR receiver input. It allows sending demodulated signal to microcontroller
- IRout : IR diode control signal output
The IR receiver on this board is designed to receive signals from remote controls at 38 kHz only - it will not work for detecting distance or other signals at different frequencies.
Module programming
The module is compatible with CircuitPython, Arduino, and other environments that support IR signals . Simply install the Adafruit_CircuitPython_IRRemote library to start broadcasting and receiving. Coding is intuitive thanks to support for the pulseio module, which decodes IR remote signals. Examples and detailed instructions can be found in the product documentation.
