Module with real time clockPCF8523 and backup battery. It is used in applications written to register data, in clock, alarms, etc. Communication interface is an I2C bus.

 

PCF8523 is simple and cheap, yet provides very high precision. It can gain or lose 2 seconds a day. If you require high precision we suggestthe DS3231 module.

 

The product is compatible with Arduino and Raspberry Pi

Very neat module, small (using CR1220 battery instead of CR2033 does make a difference), and most importantly: it draws very little current in timekeeping mode (according to my measurements below one microampere). Other RTC modules I tested connected via i2c to a microcontroller that went into sleep mode drew much more current.
