Description
Arduino Primomodule with built-inESP8266for communication with WiFi network. Its main microcontroller is thenRF52832 chip, equipped withBluetooth BLE, NFC, 14digital inputs/outputsof which 12 can beused as PWM outputs (e.g. forcontrolling motors) and 6 analoginputs and 1 analogoutput. The chipis clocked with a 64 MHz clock signal, has512 kB ofFlashmemoryand 64 kB ofSRAMmemory. Additionally, the board is equipped withSTM32F103RBT6as a service module for debugging and programming other microcontrollers. It has64 kB of Flash memoryand20 kB of SRAM. It works with a frequencyup to 72 MHz. Operating voltage of Arduino Primo outputs is 3,3 V.
Built-inESP8266 moduleenables access to WiFi, which allows to create IoT (Internet of Things) network. The chip has integrated TCP/IP stack. Arduino Primo is programmed via Arduino IDE from version 1.8.x. onwards. |
The subject of sale is original Arduino product, Botland is an officialdistributor of this company.
Apart from WiFi, Bluetooth and NFC module, the board has also IR transmitter and receiver, buzzer, lipol charging module and two buttons to use.
Installation of the drivers
The manufacturer recommends installing the drivers according to the following instructions:
- Remove the "ArduinonRF52 Boards"driverfrom the PCB Manager (Tools ->PCB ->PCB Manager).
- Delete the Arduino15 folder located in C:Users{username}AppDataLocalArduino15
- Restart Arduino IDE
- After the decimal point, add the link: http://downloads.arduino.cc/packages/package_primocore_index.json in File->Preferences in the Additional URLs to the tile manager
- Install "ArduinonRF52 Boards" version 1.0.2drivers in the tile manager.
Main features
Below we present a few features that distinguish Arduino Primo module from other programmable tiles.
The name | Description |
---|---|
Installed bootloader |
Thanks to the installed bootloader, the appropriatemicroUSB cable andsoftware from the manufactureris sufficient to program the device. |
Arduino Shield |
The layout of connectors enables installation of dedicatedArduino Shieldcovers. |
Built-in microcontrollers |
The board has a Nordic nRF52832 main microcontroller clocked at 64 MHz. Additionally, it is equipped with STM32F103RBT6 chip as a service module for debugging and programming other microcontrollers. |
WiFi module |
Built-inESP8266 moduleallows access to WiFi, which allows to create an IoT (Internet of Things) network. The chip has integrated TCP/IP stack. |
Outputs digital |
14 digital inputs/outputs enable, among other things, to control LEDs, relays and read button statuses. |
Performance Current |
The maximum current capacity of a single output is 15 mA. |
Outputs PWM |
12 PWM outputs allow e.g. for motor control and LED brightness adjustment. |
Inputs analogue |
6 inputs of the built-in 12-bit analogue-to-digital converter support, among others, sensors with analogue output. |
Communication serial |
The device supports popular communication interfaces, among others: UART, I2C and SPI. |
Special functions | Some pins have special functions, a brief description of which is available in the guide. |
Memory Embedded |
The nRF52832 is clocked with 64 MHz signal, has 512kB Flash memory, 64 kB SRAM. |
Power supply |
To power Arduino you can useany5Vpower supplywith microUSB connector or3.7Vlipol battery+2mmconnector. |
Power supply USB port |
The board can be powered from a computer viaa USB cable witha maximum current capacity of 500 mA. Arduino has a system that protects the socket against short circuit and too high current flow. |
Connector . ICSP |
The module has ICSP outputs to connect an externalAVR programmer. |
Pin IOREF |
The IOREF pin allows for direct access to the voltage with which the I/O outputs work. |
Built-in LED |
The connected LED on pin 9 allows debugging of simple programs. |
Output 3,3 V |
The built-in voltage regulator enables external devices to be supplied with 3.3 V with current consumption of up to 50 mA. |
Additional functions | The module has the ability to connect via Bluetooth BLE and NFC. In addition, there is a receiver and IR transmitter, buzzer and lipol charger module. |
First start-up To make it easier to start working with the module, we recommend that you readthe manufacturer's guide. |

Communication with WiFi and nRF52 module
On the board there is a special SPI/I2C - UART expander, which enables communication with ESP8266 module, leaving the main UART interface (pint RX0 and TX0), which is used to communicate Arduino with the computer. Communication details can be found onmanufacturer's website anduser's guide.
