Voltages, currents and power of the power supply - basic information about the outputs of ATX power supplies
The ATX power supply supplies the motherboard and other computer components (including hard drives, optical drives and graphics cards) with several different voltages, set relative to the common ground (COM). The highest current efficiency has the +3.3 V and +5 V outputs, and the +12 V outputs have slightly lower current efficiency.
The smallest current can be taken from the additional -12 V output. Specific values of the maximum currents that can be supplied by the ATX power supply in individual channels are provided in the manufacturer's specification (available, among others, on a sticker placed on the housing and constituting the power supply rating plate). ). The total power of all outputs is given as the basic parameter of the ATX power supply and is usually from 400 W to about 650 W, although the most powerful machines can work with special power supplies with a power of 1500 W.
ATX power supply output connectors
Each ATX power supply is equipped with a large bundle of output cables terminated with several types of plugs. The largest connector - a 24-pin plug for powering the computer's motherboard - contains pins for all power supply voltages provided by the device. Smaller plugs are usually: 4-pin Molex connectors (offering 5 V - red wire and 12 V - yellow wire), flat, black SATA connectors for HDD/SDD drives and CD/DVD drives, as well as an additional square plug (also 4-pin), acting as an additional 12 V voltage connection.
ATX power supply (computer power supply) – parameters
It is worth knowing that to turn on the power supply, it is not enough to plug the mains plug into a 230 V socket and press the switch on the housing - the power supply will only start after shorting the PS-ON pin (green wire) to ground (black wire). During such an operation, you should be especially careful because, given the enormous current capacity of the ATX power supply, shorting the wrong wires may result in damage to the power supply, burns or even fire.
Computer power supplies available at the Botland store
Our offer includes excellent ATX power supplies from Akyga - Akyga Basic 400 W and 500 W models. The former offers a current efficiency of 23 A (+3.3 V) and 25 A (+5 V), while the latter - 30 A, respectively ( +3.3V) and 34 A (+5 V). The devices are equipped with built-in overvoltage, short circuit and overload protection, and electromagnetic compatibility is ensured by passive power factor correctors (PFC). The power switches are built into the rear panel, near the mains socket (IEC standard).
We offer ATX computer power supplies equipped with, among others: short circuit protection. In addition, most modern power supplies are equipped with over voltage protection, which protects against too high voltage. In addition to ATX power supplies, we also offer laboratory power supplies, socket power supplies , assembly power supplies, UPS emergency power supplies and others.
Additional information about ATX power supplies
The high efficiency of the power supply and high power allows you to connect power to an efficient graphics card. The main power connector in the power supply (ATX standard) is designed for the high power consumed by individual computer components.
High-performance processors consume more power, therefore the standard of the power supply unit, its power and other parameters (including supply voltages) have been appropriately adapted to ensure safe and stable power supply to the receivers. Selected models are 80 Plus Gold certified, guaranteeing high device efficiency.
