Product description: Pololu S18V20F24 - 24 V step-up/step-down converter
The circuit gradually regulates the input voltage from 3 V to 30 V (max 32 V, recommended maximum input voltage 30 V - back-voltage protection limit). When the input voltage is decreased or increased, it produces a constant voltage of 24V or 5V, 6V, 9V, 12V depending on the model. When the input voltage is close to the output voltage, the inverter offers 80% to 90% efficiency.
The in verter is suitable for battery-powered applications where a constant supply voltage is required, where the voltage of the new battery is higher than required and begins to drop over time.
The regulator has built-in voltage variation protection, overcurrent protection, thermal shutdown (mostly activated at 165 °C) and undervoltage lockout, which causes the regulator to shut down when the input voltage is lower than 2.5 V.
The circuit has 4 leads:
- VIN - input voltage from 3 V - 30 V
- GND - ground
- VOUT - output voltage 24 V
- ENABLE - switching on, by default the module is switched on, to switch the converter to sleep mode (low current consumption) a low state should be given on the pin

Efficiency of S18V20F24circuit
Efficiency is defined as a ratio of input power to output power (Pout/Pin). In case of battery supply it influences the operating time of the circuit on one discharge. The efficiency of the converter depends on the current flowing and the input voltage.
Output current
The maximum current that the system can deliver depends on the input voltage and the operating temperature, among other things. The dependence of the maximum current on the input voltage is shown in the diagram below. In case when temperature reaches high value module will automatically switch off the power supply.
