Product description: U3V40F12 - step-up converter 12V 3.5A - Pololu 4016
Pololu step-up converter with an output voltage of 12 V and a capacity of 3.5 A. The module is supplied with the voltage from 1.3 V to 12 V (the starting voltage is 2.7 V). Typical converter efficiency ranges from 90% to 95% depending on the input voltage and load. The module has a temperature protection, after exceeding the temperature threshold, it will turn off.
Leads of the step-up converter module
The Pololu step-up voltage regulator module is equipped with four outputs in the form of six holes, to which you can solder the included connectors with a pitch of 2.54 mm.
- EN - pin that turns off the system after applying voltage below 0.4 V, the system is on by default: a 30 kΩ resistor pulled from EN to VIN.
- VIN - input voltage from 2.7 V to 12 V (after starting the system, the input voltage can be at least 1.3 V).
- GND - system ground (common for VIN and VOUT).
- VOUT - 12 V output voltage.
Dangerous voltage pulses
While applying the supply voltage to the module, dangerous, short electric pulses of large amplitude (so-called pins) may appear, which may permanently damage the system. The Pololu company has carried out tests which show that for the input voltage above 11 V the pins may have an amplitude large enough to damage the module. In order to protect against this undesirable phenomenon, it is recommended to solder a capacitor with a value of at least 33 uF as close as possible to the power pins of the converter.
System efficiency
Efficiency is defined as the ratio of the output power to the input power (power out) / (power in). This is a very important parameter when working with portable energy sources. (batteries and accumulators), where the working time per one charging cycle is counted. The efficiency of this system ranges from 90% to 95%. The output current depends on the input voltage and the system load.
