Product description: U3V40F7 - 7,5V 4A step-up converter - Pololu 4014
Pololu brand step-upconverter. The output voltage of the converter is 7.5 V and its current capacity is 4 A. The input voltage should be in the range from 1.3 V to 7.5 V (the starting voltage is 2.7 V). Typical inverter efficiency is between 90% and 95%, depending on input voltage and load. The module has temperature protection; it will shut down when the temperature threshold is exceeded.
Leads of the step-up converter module
The module has four leads in the form of six holes for soldering connectors with a 2.54 mm pitch.
- EN - pin to disable the system when the voltage is below 0.4 V, system on by default: 30 kΩ resistor pulled up from EN to VIN.
- VIN - input voltage from 2.7 V to 7.5 V (after starting up the chip, the input voltage may be at least 1.3 V).
- GND - system ground (common for VIN and VOUT).
- VOUT - output voltage of 7.5 V.
Hazardous voltage pulses
When connecting the power supply to the module, dangerous, short eclectic impulses with high amplitude (peaks) may appear, which can permanently damage the system. Pololu company has performed tests which show that for input voltage above 11 V the peaks can have amplitude large enough to damage the module. In order to protect against this undesirable phenomenon it is recommended to solder a capacitor of at least 33 uF as close to the converter supply pins as possible.
System efficiency
Efficiency is defined as the ratio of output power to input power (power out)/(power in). It is a very important parameter when working with portable sources of energy (batteries and rechargeable batteries), where the time of work on one charging cycle counts. The efficiency of this circuit is from 90% to 95%. The output current depends on the input voltage and the system load.
