Open development boards with ARM core processors

All modules provided by Khadas are fully open, that is, the manufacturer publishes and makes available for free all system documentation. This applies to both the hardware design and all software components, for which complete code is made available. This makes it easy to trace the operation of any part of the system and make sure that it is fully secure and free of backdoors. The boards supplied by Khadas can work with many open general-purpose operating systems and, for example, those used in multimedia systems, making it possible to put together, for example, a music or movie player based on a Khadas single board computer, especially since the manufacturer also supplies a dedicated high-end sound card. On the other hand, some of the Khadas modules are equipped with neural network gas pedals, allowing them to be used in machine learning systems.

VIM and Edge minicomputer families

Khadas offers two families of single-board computers that differ significantly in applications, equipment and mechanical format. The VIM family are minicomputers using an Amlogic SoC with four or six ARM cores. Additionally, the most powerful of the VIM modules feature neural network gas pedals (NPUs), making them ideal for use in machine learning systems. The Khadas Edge modules, on the other hand, use the Rockchip RK3399 SoC; a powerful SoC - it has two ARM Cortex-A72 cores and four ARM Cortex-A53 cores - that is optimized for power consumption. The Edge modules are also equipped with multiple peripherals, such as gesture sensors and a six-axis inertial module to track the computer's position in space, among others.

Compatibility with a wide range of operating systems

Khadas single board computers are compatible with a wide range of operating systems. Both Edge and VIM family modules can run under the control of multiple operating systems. VIM series minicomputers can operate under a wider spectrum of operating systems - from different versions of Android (including Android TV) through many general-purpose Linux distributions (including Armbian, Arch Linux, Manjaro, Ubuntu XFCE) and dedicated operating systems, such as multimedia Volumio, LibreELEC and CoreELEC, Lakka dedicated to running retro games or network OpenWRT. The module also supports completely new and less known operating systems like Google Fuchsia. Khadas Edge single board computers, on the other hand, can work on a narrower range of operating systems - they support Android, Ubuntu, Armbian and LibreELEC, but offer the user the possibility of running machine learning algorithms, including TensorFlow.

Intelligent bootloader for increased system security

The Edge Series single board computers feature a built-in KBI - Khadas Bootloader Instruction. This subsystem is designed to perform low-level tasks in the system, such as managing the programmable microcontroller embedded in Edge family computers and managing low-level hardware in the computer. With the help of KBI it is possible to configure system bootloader - both its source (eMMC or SPI memory) and so called triggers - events that start and stop computer.
