Product description: ISO1640 - Bidirectional I2C Isolator with Isolated Power Supply Without Connectors - 5V/3.3V, 200mA - Pololu 5392
Pololu I2C isolator with galvanic signal isolation and separated power supply , based on TI ISO1640 , enables bidirectional I2C communication between two devices with clock stretching support. The module provides isolated and regulated 5V (default) or 3.3V power supply, which can be selected via the VSEL pin. No connectors - connections are made through 2.54mm holes, compatible with goldpin connectors and breadboards . Isolation protects devices from incorrect voltages and interference.
Main features of the insulator
- Galvanic signal isolation : safe separation of SDA and SCL lines between devices
- Bidirectional I2C communication : SDA and SCL signal support with clock stretching function
- Adjustable output voltage : 5V default, selectable 3.3V via VSEL pin
- Separated power supply : stable output voltage up to 200 mA at 5 V or 75 mA at 3.3 V
- Wide input voltage range : 3 V to 5.5 V
- Temperature and short circuit protection : protects the module from damage
- Compact dimensions : 12.7 x 15.24 x 2.8 mm, weight 0.5 g
- Solder hole connections : compatible with goldpin connectors and breadboards
Module pins
The module has two separate power supplies: input ( VCCIN, GND1 ) and output ( VCCOUT, GND2 ), which are galvanically isolated. The VSEL pin allows you to select the output voltage (5 V by default or 3.3 V when connected to GND2). The SDA1 and SCL1 inputs connect to the I2C bus of the first device, and SDA2 and SCL2 from the second . The EN pin allows you to turn the module on and off, and the built-in 10 kΩ pull-up resistors ensure signal stability.
Connection and configuration
The input power should be connected to the VCCIN and GND1 pins with a voltage of 3 V to 5.5 V. Isolated power is available on the VCCOUT and GND2 pins. The VSEL pin is left floating for 5 V or connected to GND2 to select 3.3 V at the output. The I2C buses are connected to the corresponding SDA and SCL pins on both sides of the isolator . The EN pin is pulled up to VCCIN by default and is used to turn the module off, reducing current consumption. For higher communication speeds, it is recommended to use additional pull-up resistors.
