SparkFun Mini Spectral UV Sensor is a compact UV light sensor that uses the AS7331 chip from AMS OSRAM. This sensor allows you to measure UV radiation on three channels: UVA (from 320 nm to 400 nm), UVB (from 280 nm to 320 nm) and UVC (from 200 nm to 280 nm). Each channel is equipped with a separate photodiode with built-in interference filters, which ensures high sensitivity and accuracy of measurements. The sensor can operate in four modes: single measurement (CMD), continuous measurement (CONT), synchronized start (SYNS) and synchronized start and stop (SYND). Additionally, low power consumption is achieved thanks to the automatic power -off sequence between measurements.

How to measure ultraviolet radiation?
Ultraviolet (UV) radiation requires specialized sensors because standard photodiodes, phototransistors, and photoresistors are not capable of detecting light in this range. UV light includes wavelengths below 400 nm, which is outside the range visible to the human eye. UV photodetectors are used to detect this type of radiation, which have a spectral response that allows for precise detection of shorter wavelengths of light. The sun is a natural source of ultraviolet radiation, while artificial sources of UV radiation include fluorescent lamps used in solariums, cosmetic lamps, sterilization lamps, and some types of laboratory and industrial lighting.
