Product description: Wave Rover - 4-wheeled robot chassis with drive and ESP32 controller - Waveshare 25377
Wave Rover is a versatile mobile robot chassis with 4-wheel drive and a solid metal structure , perfectly coping with various terrain conditions. Equipped with an ESP32 controller with built-in WiFi and Bluetooth, it enables communication with various minicomputers, such as Raspberry Pi or Jetson Nano. Thanks to rubber tires, it provides excellent grip and shock absorption, even on difficult terrain, while maintaining stability and movement control. Additionally, Wave Rover is equipped with four N20 DC motors , which ensure high power and efficiency in operation. The chassis is powered by a 3S UPS module supporting three Li-Ion 18650 batteries , allowing for uninterrupted power supply to the robot , which is crucial in applications requiring long-term operation. The kit also includes a mounting plate for various minicomputers and additional modules, such as Lidar sensors or a pan/tilt camera, which further expands the possibilities of developing and personalizing the robot. Wave Rover is not only a solid chassis, but also a platform for experimenting and developing advanced projects in mobile robotics.
The manufacturer has prepared a user's guide that makes it easier to start working with the product.
Main features of the robot chassis
- Equipped with 4-wheel drive with N20 reduction engines with high-quality gears, enabling high speed movement of up to 1.25 m/s.
- Flexible soft rubber tires provide excellent shock absorption, allowing the chassis to cope with obstacles in off-road conditions.
- It has an interactive OLED display with a diagonal of 0.91''.
- The UPS power module includes an INA219 measurement chip, enabling real monitoring of battery voltage and charging current.
- Offers 5V and 3.3V outputs for expansion with other devices.
- The system can be extended to various host devices, using serial communication to transmit control data in JSON format.
- All code is open-source and comes with extensive documentation and online tutorials.
- JSON commands can be sent via serial port, USB, HTTP, ESP-NOW, etc.
- Automatic creation of a WiFi hotspot when ESP32 is turned on, allows control via smartphone or computer without having to download the application.
Send specific JSON commands to the robot
The robot chassis allows you to control its movement, speed and direction using commands in JSON format, which allows you to automate your tasks. The robot can receive these commands both remotely through the web application and through various interfaces such as serial port, USB, HTTP, ESP-NOW, etc.
Control of servomechanisms using PWM
The robot controller with a built-in ESP32 system allows you to control servomechanisms via PWM signals, which allows for flexible adjustment of parameters such as rotation angle and speed. This provides the ability to construct complex movements and manipulations of the robot.
Remote control via web interface
Thanks to the built-in controller with the ESP32 system, the robot allows remote control by creating its own WiFi hotspot. The web interface is available in a web browser at 192.168.4.1, which allows users to control the robot's movement using directional buttons and adjust the speed. Additionally, you can send commands in JSON format to manage various functions.
The process of setting up a WiFi hotspot and connecting to it is described in detail in the guide in the WAVE ROVER Basic Use section.

Attention! Before using the product for the first time, you must purchase and install three 18650 batteries yourself. When you connect them for the first time, check whether the LED is lit. If so, it means that the batteries are incorrectly connected (plus to minus and minus to plus) and they need to be placed the other way around, because charging them in the wrong configuration is dangerous and may cause an explosion.
