What is a Zener diode used for?
Zener diode is a type of semiconductor diode that allows current to flow not only from the anode to the cathode (as in a conventional rectifier diode), but also in the opposite direction . This is possible after reaching a certain potential difference on the electrodes of the element.
Application of Zener diodes
Zener diodes can be used as a reference voltage source in regulators, to shift voltage levels, and as a protective and surge suppressor. Diodes are often used on the breadboard during prototyping and circuit design.
