Product description: Engraving laser 3D/CNC PLH3D 6W Hobby

The third generation engraving laser head for fans of the Lasers Optcompany. It uses the same high powerdiode laser and an excellent aluminum designand driver asthe XF version, but it has a simplified cooling system with fan for15 m3/h, which is suitable for less demanding tasks.

Engraving laser PLH3D Hobby allows the user to performhigh quality design, cutting and engraving on different materials such as wood, cardboard, rubber, paper, textile, leather, plastic, balsa, plywood and many others, stainless steel, titanium, and steel, characterized by low conductivity.

Tripletlens with high resolution that has been pre-installed in the head is set to focus at a height of60 mm(measured from the front surface of the laser head to the engraving plane). Built-in lens has a relatively long and effectivefocal length (EFL) at 8 mm, which allows to focus the laser beam on a small point. All6 of the lens surfaces are covered with an anti-reflective coating (AD) operating at450 nm. It is preferred for engraving thin lines, cutting thicker material due to the reduction in convergence and divergence, or when there is a large distance between the laser head and the engraving plane. The focal length can be quickly set or altered using the includedcontrol lens (without additional tools).

In addition to the standard functionality, the small spot allows you to use this device for quickPCB prototyping. This is done by exposure of the copper layer plates after applying a photosensitive paste.

The kit was supplied with a second lens- high performanceaspherical lens. It was designed to get as much of the power of the laser diode. Its short effective focal length(EFL) of 4 mmallows a variety of working distances. However, the stain is almost two times bigger when compared to a triplet lens. This lens can be used for engraving thick lines in wood or plastic. Aspherical lens should be set closer to the laser diode.

The device hasa built-in driver in the laser head. Short connection between the laser diode and the driver providesthe best protection of LED, the possibility of modulation the high frequency current, and it also eliminates the effects of inductance when switching on.

The device acceptsa wide range of power supply 12 - 24 Vwith built-in functions of DC-DC converter regulating the input voltage to the desired voltage compatible with the diode. This reduces the amount of heat, and provides surge protection.

The laser headrequires no additional cooling as it was supplied with the method prevents heating of the head above 10 degrees Celsius throughout the hours of continuous operation with full capacity.

The thermal protection systemautomatically switches off the device in the case the case temperature exceeds 45°C.

The analog input is protected by Zener diode 5 V, when sometimes there is a voltage above 5 V. In spite of everything, this input should not be used at higher voltages because of the risk of damage.

The laser diode is protected by a Schottky diode, which protects it from solid particles of metal in the CNC environment.

The connection method of the engraving laser

The laser head has two separate controls.

The modulation input 1 receives a voltage in the range of

  • from 0 V to 5 V
  • or 0 V to 10 V (with added resistor 4.2 kOhm connected in series) for analog modulation.

The modulation input 2 accepts voltage in the range

  • from 0 V to 5 V
  • from 0 V to 10 V
  • or 0 V to 24 V

for TTL / PWM and turns the laser on when the voltage exceeds 2.5 V.

The connection of the analog signal 10 (X-Cut, CS-Lab and other devices)

To connect an analog signal from 0 V to 10 V to the modulating input No. 1 you should add a serial resistor 4.2 kΩ (included in the supplied universal power adapter or in the "hobby" kit).

IMPORTANT:the laser gead needs to be a supplied with a high quality power source without connecting other elements.

NOTE:it is not recommended to connect the laser head to the same PSU as a stepper motor or other equipment with high resistance.

This can lead to damage of the laser diode.
